Join us to discuss the 2019 One Book, One San Diego selection, “The Great Believers” by Rebecca Makkai. No sign up required just drop in to talk about the book.

This discussion will be facilitated by Franklin Escobedo, Principal Librarian at the Coronado Public Library. Franklin is a avid reader serving on several selection lists for the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. While Franklin has a few favorite genres, he tends to read all over the map and is always looking for a new book to read.

“The Great Believers” is a historical novel about the terrors and tragedies of the AIDS epidemic and its repercussions, through a story about friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy and loss, set in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris.

It won the Stonewall Book Award, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and was optioned by Amy Poehler for television.
