Knox Williams to Receive Carlsbad Charitable Foundation Philanthropy Award

For the past 56 years, Knox Williams has been leaving his mark on the Carlsbad and greater San Diego philanthropy landscape.

On September 12, the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) will be presenting Knox with its first ever Knox Williams Philanthropy Award to recognize his extraordinary dedication to celebrating and investing in the Carlsbad community.

The award ceremony will be held at the home of Jodi and Rusty Wallis from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.. Contact Estela Mitrani if you plan to attend the event for address/gate code at estelam@sdfoundation.org – Phone: (619)-847-7100.

As Founding Chair of CCF in 2007, Knox helped select one of the first grants to a local elementary school where parents were paying a teacher to stay after class and teach 5th graders financial literacy. Members of CCF supported this grassroots initiative, and eventually it expanded to all nine elementary schools in the area that received the same program thanks to the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. “That’s community philanthropy at its finest,” Knox explained.

“Knox Williams has made a significant impact in the Carlsbad community with his philanthropic efforts over the last several decades," says Justin Peek, CCF board chairman, who will be presenting the award. "In addition to CCF, he has left his imprint on several other charitable organizations including local YMCAs, Mira Costa College Foundation, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center in El Cajon and Noah Homes Foundation in Spring Valley — to name a few.”

From its humble beginnings and through Knox’s continued leadership and participation in CCF, the foundation has distributed over $900,000 in grants to Carlsbad area nonprofits since its inception in 2007.

Also, at the award ceremony, Solutions for Change CEO Chris Megison will be sharing the impact of their $60,000 grant funding from CCF (see sidebar story-Solutions for Change Makes a Difference).

The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, mission is to celebrate and invest in Carlsbad’s diverse and thriving community through its annual grant making process to local Carlsbad non-profit charitable organizations. Over the past 12 years, CCF has supported a wide range of grants to Carlsbad Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Poverty and Homelessness needs in the community. Since 2008, CCF has granted out $900,000 to local nonprofits and raised over $745,000 in permanent endowment funds.
