A history in slides of the LGBTQ rights movement in San DIego, presented by Walter Meyer of the Lambda Archives of San Diego.

This event is offered in conjunction with the 2019 One Book, One San Diego selection, “The Great Believers” by Rebecca Makkai.

“The Great Believers” is a historical novel about the terrors and tragedies of the AIDS epidemic and its repercussions, through a story about friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy and loss, set in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris.

It won the Stonewall Book Award, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and was optioned by Amy Poehler for television.

This event is part of the San Diego Public Library’s programming for this year’s One Book, One San Diego.The 2019 selections include “The Great Believers” by Rebecca Makkai, “The Crossover” by Kwame Alexander for young adults, "Dreamers" by Yuyi Morales for kids, and “Éramos unos niños” by Patti Smith for Spanish-language readers.
