Poet Laurates: A topic that spans decades! Who are these champions in the art of poetry? What makes these poets important to our culture? We will focus on a few and delve into their poetry and aesthetics.

Poetry allows us to find answers in a world of perplexing questions.

In this generative workshop we will read poems that move us (written by Poet Laurates.) Why do we keep reading? What makes us care about these poems? How can we make another care about ours? We will consider aspects of craft that evoke interest and emotions, then recreate these in our own work as we find the grist for prompts in selected poems.

We will write, share our writing, and hear what our work touches in others. This will be a writing retreat from the outside world at a time when our inner-selves need nurturing—time to explore and create in a supportive community. Though the focus is on poetry, prose writers who want to enrich and compress their language will find it a fertile environment.

You will be emailed the Zoom link 24 hours before the start of class. If you sign up less than 24 hours before the start of the class, please email Kristen at programs@sandiegowriters.org for your link.
