The Virtual SDMA+ Art of Elan "Abstraction & Allegory" video premiere will be shared on Friday, February 19 at 7 p.m. PT on The San Diego Museum of Art YouTube channel and is available for free streaming thereafter.

This multi-media performance video takes its inspiration from the thoughtful works of photographic art currently on display in "Masters of Photography: The Garner Collection" at The San Diego Museum of Art, which features iconic images by some of the most famous photographers from the 20th century to the present.

As a direct tie-in to the exhibit's "Manipulating Reality" theme, Art of Elan takes a closer look at the power of transformation, featuring two incredibly compelling pieces of music for solo clarinet and multimedia: "Advice from a Caterpillar" for bass clarinet from the opera "Alice in Wonderland" by South Korean composer Unsuk Chin, and "Jabberwocky" by Mexican composer Andrea González. This colorful and fantastical online program, featuring internationally acclaimed clarinetist Joshua Rubin, will be the world premiere performance of González's work, which was inspired by the Lewis Carroll poem and was created for Art of Elan as a companion piece for this special Virtual SDMA+ concert.
