The City of Carlsbad's civic art gallery has hosted a juried exhibition of works by both emerging and mid-career artists for 21 years now, and this year's just opened this month. It features art by thirty local artists including Duke Windsor, Melissa Walter, Stefanie Bales, Becky Guttin, Griselda Rosas, Perry Vazquez, Kelsey Overstreet, Sage Serrano and more. The judges this year were Sonya Sparks and Andrew Utt. I've seen a few glimpses of the works on view in this show and they're phenomenal.

The William D. Cannon Art Gallery is open for appointments using online reservations, or using their "QLess" system so you don't have to wait. Walk-ins can also be accommodated.

Details: On view Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. now through Aug. 7, 2021. 1775 Dove Ln., Carlsbad. Free.
