Moonlight Stage presents the San Diego regional premiere of "Newsies."

They delivered the papers, until they made the headlines!

"Newsies" is a high-energy explosion of song and dance based on the popular 1992 film which became a hit Broadway musical in 2012. It features score by Alan Menken and is based on the thrilling true story of the Newsboy strike in 1899, when a bunch of rag tag orphans took on the mighty Joe Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst, nearly bringing down the city of New York.

The musical runs July 18 through Aug. 4, 2018. For tickets and additional information call (760) 724-2110.

(Super) Short Review: Only Disney can take depressing subjects like homeless runaways and child labor and turn that into a zippy musical. "Newsies" tells the story of poor newsboys taking on publishing magnates Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst (read about it here). Moonlight's production is packed with great dance numbers, and those alone are worth the ticket. But you'll also find an enthusiastic ensemble that brings heart and authenticity to songs like "King of New York" and "Once And For All."
