RAYMONDA - Closing the season in May, City Ballet offers an experience in pure dance with the grandeur of classical ballet in Elizabeth Wistrich’s shorter version titled Raymonda Variations, based on Marius Petipa’s 1898 ballet.

Then taking ballet to another level is Elizabeth Wistrich’s energetic contemporary ballet, Still World Turning Again.

Resident Choreographer Geoff Gonzalez closes out the program with a concert version of his popular The Four Seasons to Antonio Vivaldi famous score. Audience members will feel a part of the ballet, as the camera allows them a personal involvement with the dancers while they are in compliance with the CDC guidelines.

Release date: May 7, 2021, available through May 23, 2021.

The full program:
Raymonda Variations
An experience of pure dance. Marius Petipa’s full-length, three-act ballet was created in 1898 and performed at the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg Russia. It had a difficult story line to follow, therefore, Resident Choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich choreographed this shorter version. Having no literary content, it is the grand music with its joy and playfulness and the grandeur of the classical choreography that will electrify the audience.

Choreographed in 1986, this elaborately costumed tutu ballet was last performed by City Ballet of San Diego in 2016.

Music: Alexander Glazunov
Choreography: Elizabeth Wistrich, after Marius Petipa

Still World Turning Again
Taking ballet to another level. This wonderful entertaining contemporary ballet by Resident Choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich was a big hit when it premiered in 2003. Our exciting new cast infuses the already ebullient ballet with a palpable energy that will keep you engaged and entertained.

Choreographed in 2003 and last performed by City Ballet of San Diego in 2003.

Music: Miroshi Ohguri
Choreography: Elizabeth Wistrich

Completing the program is the concert version of Geoff Gonzalez’s stirring creation to Vivaldi’s most famous work, The Four Seasons, giving a unique musical expression to each season of the year.

Choreographed in 2017 and last performed by City Ballet of San Diego in 2017.

Music: Antonio Vivaldi
Choreography: Geoff Gonzalez
