In the United States, 82 percent of kids from low-income families cannot read proficiently by the 4th grade. This makes a child up to 15x more likely to drop out of school, which leaves them unqualified for 90 percent of jobs. (Annie E Casey Foundation & NAEP).

Our mission at Traveling Stories is to empower kids to outsmart poverty by providing the literacy and money management skills they need to become productive members of society. We do that through our innovative StoryTent programs. Kids read out loud with volunteers and earn “book bucks” for each book read. They’re invited to negotiate for more bucks and can even earn by reading outside the program. With their bucks, kids can buy prizes!

Email Robyn@TravelingStories.org if you are interested in volunteering. We are always looking for volunteer groups!
