Cygnet Theatre kicks off its 17th season with "Rock of Ages," a Tony-nominated jukebox musical that takes you back to the golden time of 1980s hair metal.

Aqua Net, Lycra and liquor flow freely on the legendary Sunset Strip rock music scene. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star Drew longs to become the next big thing in music, while also falling for fresh-off-the-bus newcomer Sherrie, a Kansas kid with stars in her eyes.

This musical comedy lovingly nudges the fashion of the 1980s and features some of the best rock hits from the time with music from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and many more.

Adding to the nostaglia and escapism of the evening, patrons will be able to purchase a beer from Cygnet's own Bourbon Club bar right on the stage.

This version is directed by Sean Murray, with music direction by Patrick Marion and choreography by Katie Banville.

Fun things to know:

1. Fridays are '80s Nights! When you dress up in your best 1980s outfit, you’ll get a free glow bracelet (all the cool kids have them).

2. Free earplugs! If you’re over the age of "ahem," you can ask for free ear plugs.

3. Additional advisories: "Rock of Ages" contains references and portrayals of alcohol use and drug use, includes comic mischief, crude/mature humor, mild to moderate use of profanity, sexual themes/content.

It runs Tuesday, July 2 through Sunday, Aug. 25. For tickets and additional details call (619) 337-1525.

Dates and times of events are subject to change without notice. Always check the event organizer's website for the most updated schedule before attending.
