Gas prices in San Diego took a big jump from last week. The Auto Club of Southern California says prices went up for the first time since May throughout Southern California. KPBS Reporter Ed Joyce has more.

The Auto Club's Paul Gonzales says a gallon of self-serve regular in San Diego jumped nearly eight cents from last week to an average of $3.28 a gallon.

Gonzales: "Prices are rising, primarily because people are using more gas. The refinery capacity in the country is pretty healthy-it's down a little bit from last week. But more people are driving, more people are using gas and they don't seem to be off put by the prices."

Gonzales says the margin between supply and demand is razor thin, so the more we drive this summer, the more likely prices will go up at the pump. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
