Chapter Six

Chapter Synopsis

The election is only days away. Tía Irma and Nayeli continue their campaigning by convincing the older women that a woman could be in charge, and having the youngsters sign pledges saying they will do the best they can to convince their mothers and grandmothers to vote for Irma. Nayeli and Aunt Irma head to the house of García-García. They demand better jobs for the women in town and a film festival of movies starring Yul Brynner, Aunt Irma’s favorite actor, who she is convinced is Mexican. Election Day comes and Irma wins by a landslide.
