Armed Female Soldier Prompts Lockdown At Fort Lee Army Base in Virginia

A female soldier who shot herself with a gun prompted a lockdown this morning at Fort Lee Army Base in Virginia.

According to Fort Lee's official Facebook page, the woman entered Building 5020 of the Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters at about 9 a.m. EDT:

Early reports indicate the Soldier turned the weapon on herself and fired one shot, injuring herself.

The Soldier was transported Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.

Her condition is not known at this time.
No one else was injured in the episode.

Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are in charge of the investigation into Monday morning's incident.

The Associated Press reports Fort Lee has a daily population of roughly 34,000 service members, their families, and civilian employees. The base is located about 25 miles south of Richmond.
