Citizen Panel Meets Tuesday To Discuss San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning
Southern California Edison said the citizen panel overseeing the decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant will meet for the first time next week.

The panel is designed to serve as a conduit for information about a process that could take decades. Representatives include members of the American Nuclear Society, University of California at Irvine, Orange County Coast Keeper and San Diego County.

Southern California Edison spokeswoman Maureen Brown said the first meeting will focus on the beginning of a long process.

"Where we are right now. Our intention to have by mid-year of this year, a blue print for decommissioning," Brown said. "The scope schedule details of how we're going to proceed."

A utility executive will explain what's to come, then the panel will open up the hearing for public comment. Southern California Edison expects to have a plan for decommissioning the reactor by the end of summer.
