Starting Memorial Day, military families can visit more than 2,000 museums across the country without paying a dime.

The Blue Star Museum Program provides active duty service members, National Guard members, reservists, and their families free entrance into participating museums, art centers, and exhibits. All that's required is valid military identification.

According to Blue Star Families CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet:

“Blue Star Museums has grown into a nationally recognized program that service members and their families look forward to each year. It helps bring our local military and civilian communities together, and offers families fun and enriching activities in their home towns. We are thrilled with the continued growth of the program and the unparalleled opportunities it offers.”

This is the fifth year for the 2014 Blue Star Museums Program. The Associated Press reports there were fewer than 1,000 museums involved when the program began in 2010, but it's since doubled in size.

The 2014 Blue Star Museums Program lasts until Labor Day.
