A kidnapping attempt and a sexual assault case were investigated by campus police at San Diego State University Sunday, but police made no link between the two incidents.
SDSU police were called to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa shortly before 6 a.m. in connection with the sexual assault. The victim, a SDSU student, told investigators she had been assaulted at a party on Hardy Avenue near 55th Street sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
University police described the woman's attacker as white with brown hair and about 6 feet tall. He was shirtless but wore dress slacks.
And at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a group of men attempted to pull a woman into a car on the SDSU campus, but she was able to escape unharmed, police said.
The student was walking home shortly after 12:30 a.m. and dropped her phone in the vicinity of 55th Street and Aztec Walk, according to a university police statement.
One of six men inside a nearby silver or gray four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota, got out and picked up the phone before its owner could retrieve it, police said. The suspects sped off, but returned after a few minutes.
The car's occupants offered to give the woman's phone back, but as she approached them, one attempted to pull her into the car, the police statement said.
The woman managed to escape with her phone and called for help, police said.
Police described two of the suspects as black men. One was 5 feet 7 to 6 feet tall with a slender build and black curly hair, and was wearing khaki pants with visible camouflage boxer shorts. He was not wearing a shirt and had several tattoos on his chest and arms.
The other was wearing a flannel shirt. A description of the other four men was not available, but police said the suspects were all last seen in the sedan heading east on Montezuma Road.
