Alleged serial killer Darren Vann was "prematurely discharged" from the Marine Corps in the early 1990s, according to military records obtained by the Austin-American Statesman.

The Corps found that Vann, now suspected of murdering at least seven women in Indiana, had a character "incongruent with Marine Corps’ expectations and standards."

Vann, 43, enlisted in the Marines in 1991 and was out by 1993. He was based at Camp Pendleton, as well as in Arizona and New Jersey.

The Associated Press reports Vann allegedly confessed to killing seven women in Indiana.

Cook County (Illinois) Sheriff Tom Dart told Chicago television station WLS-TV the search is on for more victims who may have fallen prey to Vann:

"We would be the dumbest people on the planet if, given what has come to light, we didn't go to where some of the indicators are right now."
