San Diego is mourning the death of Bishop Cirilo Flores who died last week from prostate cancer. About 1 in 7 American men will be diagnosed with the disease this year.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among American men. Most prostate cancers grow slowly, and don’t cause any health problems in men who have them. The disease is rare in men under 40 with an average age of diagnosis of 65.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month — we get an update on screening, treatment options and support.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has in depth information on prostate cancer online.
