Several power lines came down for unknown reasons in Logan Heights Wednesday, leaving nearby homes and businesses in the dark and disrupting light-rail service in the area through the morning.
One of the electrical cables landed on an overhead line that powers Metropolitan Transit System trolleys when it fell about midnight, forcing a halt to the commuter trams in the area, according to MTS officials.
The transit agency brought in buses to take Orange Line riders between stops on 47th Street and at 12th and Imperial avenues. Passengers were advised to allow for extra travel time due to the so-called "bus bridges."
The problem also caused a blackout in the Logan Heights, Mountain View and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. As of about 7:30 a.m., 118 area homes and businesses remained in the dark, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
Electrical service and trolley runs were restored to all the affected areas by midday, authorities said.
