Containment Of Brush Fire Near I-15 Increases

The Gopher fire had burned 35 acres and was 40 percent contained Tuesday evening, according to Cal Fire.

The brush fire along Interstate 15 in the Deer Springs area was 25 percent contained Tuesday morning.

The burn area held steady at 25 acres.

Ten engines and 120 firefighters are assigned to the fire, Cal Fire said.

One southbound lane of Interstate 15 remains closed in the area, Caltrans said.

Residents that had been evacuated from two homes nearby were allowed to return home.

UPDATE: 6:50 p.m., Aug. 8, 2016

Fire crews will be working through the night and well into Tuesday to fully extinguish the Gopher fire in San Diego's North County, Cal Fire said Monday.

Meanwhile, two of I-15's southbound lanes have reopened, Cal Fire said.

The blaze dubbed the Gopher fire had burned 25 acres and was 0 percent contained by Monday evening, threatening three homes, according to Cal Fire.

Crews were working to extinguish a brush fire alongside Interstate 15, near Gopher Canyon Road and Castle Creek County Club in unincorporated Escondido, Cal Fire said Monday afternoon.

The fire has closed all southbound lines on the I-15 at Gopher Canyon Road, according to Caltrans.
