Original post:

A 55-acre brush fire burning on Featherstone Canyon Road near the Barona Indian Reservation has prompted the Sheriff's Department to order evacuations in the area.

Cal Fire first reported the fire about 1:30 p.m. in a tweet, saying the fire was spreading rapidly and was threatening structures on the Barona Mesa. It's been dubbed the Feather fire and is burning south of Ramona.

There were no immediate reports of structural damage or injuries. Crews were working to extinguish the blaze on the ground and aboard air tankers and water-dropping helicopters.

Deputies evacuated people from homes nearest the blaze and advised them to gather at an equestrian center in the 16900 block of Gunn Stage Road in the San Diego Country Estates community.
