This is KPBS Midday Edition. I am Maureen Cavanaugh. There are a wide range of events featured in this week's weekend preview. Joining me to add her voice to the chorus is Nina Garin. Welcome back. Hello. Tell us about this event happening at Balboa Park. It is called the indigo sings and it is a giant festival. He will bring out 22 choirs that are performing throughout the day. I did not know there were so many groups here. Are some of these well-known? There is a mix of choirs from schools and churches. Also, they have established groups like the vocal ensemble and the Symphony and course. There's a San Diego Gay men's chorus and many more. There are special numbers planned throughout the day I understand. The event is at 1:00 and the choirs will perform together. They will perform the gift of singing which was about -- by a California composer and it will have 1000 singers. If you want to sing, there will be a community sing-along around 4:00. Let's hear some coral using. Here is the ensemble performing being alive from the musical company. [ MUSIC ] That is there to get you in a May. Sand is things happens Saturday in Balboa Park. You also have some news to share. Yes. It appears that the sandy cocoa comic con museum will happen. We have news a couple of days ago that it will be going into the former Hall of champions site in the future. We do not have an exact date. What happens to the Hall of champions? The sports memorabilia will go over to the park. We will talk more about that but getting back to Balboa park, we are spending a lot of time there this weekend. There is another event you're recommending? Yes. There is a new exhibition at the Museum of art and it is called what you see is what you get. Tell us about Richard. He is a British contempt -- sculptor. He calls himself a fabricator. He uses materials like limestone to create cool sculptures. Even if we have not heard of him, he is very famous in Britain and in art circles. He will be there for the opening Yes. This is the first major U. S. museum survey of his work. He will be there on the opening day which is Saturday. He will have a talk at noon. What you see is what you get opens at the San Diego new CM of art and it will continue through July 25. Next, you will tell us about an event that is not at the park. Is called open house San Diego. Can you explain what that is? It is put on by the architectural foundation. It is tours of great buildings around San Diego. If you have driven by the library or an old church and you thought that would be great to go inside, you will be able to this weekend What buildings are we talking about? The Santa Fe Depot, the children museum, the urban discovery Academy. There are a bunch of different spots. It is going to be in Bakersfield, East Village, and they are concentrating in that area. These places are open to the public on a regular basis. Why the guided tours? They are experts at some of the locations. You will be able to hear more about the architecture and the history. Some sites are under construction -- construction so you can look at what is happening and it is to be around lovers of architecture. How do actually sign up for this or whatever? On the website. You will find a location you would like to start at. Let's pick the Depot and you get a booklet and you are on your way. It is a self-guided tour with guides along the way. That is open house San Diego Saturday and Sunday. As you said, go to www.sdarchitecture.org. We have a comedy that is being put on. It is not easy to explain. I know the plot the screwball comedies but can you give it a try? I will try. It is a theater producer who is on a train and the mission is to get the starlets to be in his nonexistent show. What You See Is What You Get Exhibition and Artist Talk
Visual Arts
San Diego Museum of Art presents renowned British artist Richard Deacon's first major museum exhibition in the United States.
What You See Is What You Get includes about 40 pieces from more than three decades of Deacon's work, including sculptures, wall-mounted works, ceramics and works on paper.
The artist is known for his abstract works using everyday materials, and refers to himself as a "fabricator" rather than a sculptor. He will be at the museum for an artist talk at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The exhibition will be on view through July 25, 2017.

Open House San Diego
Architecture, Tours
If you have ever wanted to go inside some of San Diego's unique buildings, you will have the opportunity with the San Diego Architectural Foundation's Open House San Diego.
This event, which has similar tours in London and New York, gives behind-the-scenes access to outstanding buildings, parks and more. The tour focuses on Bankers Hill/Balboa Park, Downton/Gaslamp, East Village and Barrio Logan.
You can take a self-guided tour or plan to attend lectures and talks given throughout the day.

"On the Twentieth Century"
Theater
Cygnet Theatre stages the San Diego premiere of "On the Twentieth Century," a show that is often described as "part operetta, part farce and part screwball comedy."
The show, set in the 1920s, involves a trip on the Twentieth Century Limited train and a behind-the-scenes relationship between Lily, a temperamental actress, and Oscar, a bankrupt theater producer. The Broadway production opened in 1978, and it was revived in 2015 featuring Kristin Chenoweth.
Cygnet's fully-staged production features a cast of 15, including Sean Murray, Melissa Fernandes, Bryan Banville and Eileen Bowman, plus a live orchestra.

San Diego Sings! Festival
Music
San Diego Sings! is a festival that features choral groups from all over San Diego performing throughout the day.
In the afternoon, all the singers will come together to perform "The Gift of Singing," a song written by California composer Kirke Mechem. And at the end of the day, there will be a community sing.
Planned and presented by the Choral Consortium of San Diego, the 22 choral groups vary in styles from Broadway to classical and much more.
