Transcript

"The Other Side of Impossible, Ordinary People Who Faced Daunting Medical Challenges and Refused to Give Up," by Susannah Meadows.

Every day, families across the country are struck by crippling medical challenges with no real hope for a cure.

It is a familiar story for journalist Susannah Meadows, who grew up in San Diego. Her 3-year-old son, Shepherd, was diagnosed with arthritis so severe he eventually could not get out of bed on his own.

Meadows wrote about her son's remarkable recovery, and the stories of others who refused to give up hope in the face of daunting medical challenges, in a new book, "The Other Side of Impossible, Ordinary People Who Faced Daunting Medical Challenges and Refused To Give Up."

Meadows will be speaking at Warwicks books in La Jolla on Wednesday night at 7:30. She previewed her story on Midday Edition on Wednesday.
