San Diego Homeless Task Force Leader Looks Back At His First Year On The Job GUEST: Gordon Walker, CEO, San Diego Regional Task Force on the Homeless

It’s been just over a year since Gordon Walker took over as head of San Diego’s Regional Task Force on the Homeless.

The task force oversees the annual homeless count and is responsible for coordinating homeless resources in the county.

Walker came to San Diego from Utah, where he was credited for decreasing the state’s chronically homeless population by 91 percent.

When he arrived, San Diego's deadly Hepatitis A outbreak had not yet peaked and there were more people living on the streets of downtown San Diego.

This year, the annual homeless count shows a six percent drop in homeless individuals. But this year the task force also left out people living in recreational vehicles from the count.

Walker reflects on his time Monday on Midday Edition.
