Utility crews were working to repair a gas line after a natural gas leak prompted the closure of a road in El Cajon and around 80 San Diego Gas & Electric customers remained without gas this morning.

The gas leak was reported at 9:37 a.m. Monday after a crew doing excavation work ruptured a 4-inch gas line in the 1000 block of Jamacha Road, according to SDG&E.

The leak was secured at around 8:30 p.m. Monday but utility crews could remain on scene making repairs until 8 a.m., SDG&E spokeswoman Allison Torres said.

At its peak, around 150 SDG&E customers were without gas, according to SDG&E.

SDG&E officials have been in contact with the 80 customers who remain without gas and expect to have service restored to them around 8 a.m., Torres said.

No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.

At around 9:40 a.m. Monday, El Cajon police closed off traffic on northbound Jamacha Road at Grove Road and southbound Jamacha Road at Gustavo Street because of the leak, the department tweeted.

As of 11 p.m. Monday, Jamacha Road between Kendrick Way and Gustavo Street was reduced to one open lane in each direction.
