Evicting squatters can be tough
San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Peter Rowe analyzed in a recent story how difficult it can become to remove tenants from properties even though they have violated their rental agreement, and why some squatters have legal rights to remain occupying those residences.
In his piece, he takes readers through the lengthy, but common, court process of evicting squatters. He profiled a couple who wanted to return to their Carlsbad home after living abroad for several years. They had been renting the house out to a couple who eventually trashed the house and stopped paying rent. Despite violating their leasing terms, the tenants could not be removed without a court judgment.
Layoffs at San Diego Unified, Sweetwater school districts
Both San Diego Unified School District and Sweetwater Union High School District announced layoffs in the last week—blaming budget shortfalls as the cause. Sweetwater may be releasing nearly 90 administration. SDUSD will be issuing dozens of layoff notices and eliminating more than 100 positions.
Government tracks journalists covering border
National attention this week is focused on a story by NBC-7 Investigates about how the government is tracking journalists and other working with the migrant caravans of asylum seekers. Documents released by the station show that might be the case.
