It’s the start of a new era for the La Jolla Music Society as it prepares to move into its new home.

On Friday, LJMS will open its $82 million music venue known as the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center with a series of opening-weekend concerts and festivities.

The opening of The Conrad coincides with the arts organization's 50th anniversary.

Previously, the nonprofit rented Sherwood Auditorium from the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. But it closed in 2012 for renovations.

Past and present SummerFest music directors Cho-Liang “Jimmy” Lin and Inon Barnatan talk about what The Conrad means for the LJMS and the region’s arts community Thursday on Midday Edition.
