Canada joined California in the fight against President Trump’s plan to weaken auto pollution standards. The agreement between the country and the state is non-binding.

California has a cross-border ally in the fight against a significant environmental rollback by President Trump.

Canada joined California in the fight against Trump’s plan to weaken auto pollution standards. Canada said it will follow the state in its higher fuel economy standards required in new vehicles if the federal government rolls back its standards and California keeps theirs. The agreement between the country and the state is non-binding.

Mark Jacobsen, associate professor of economics at UC San Diego, specializes in environmental regulation of transportation and the auto industry. He joins Midday Edition on Monday to discuss how Canada joining California on auto pollution standards could impact the auto industry.
