Domestic Violence Incidents Up Slightly In San Diego County

Domestic violence incidents increased slightly in San Diego County last year, according to a report by the San Diego Domestic Violence Council. The report comes on the heels of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month got underway Tuesday with a candlelight ceremony in downtown San Diego. This as new statistics from the San Diego County District Attorney's Office show a slight increase in reported domestic violence incidents. The San Diego Domestic Violence Council reported 18 deaths in the county last year carried out by a domestic partner.

The face of domestic violence may be changing. Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso, who is also the new president of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council, said more men are coming forward to report being the victim of domestic violence. She also said the district attorney's office is seeing more reports of domestic violence in the LGBTQ community.

Grasso joined Midday Edition Wednesday to discuss what is being done about the problem of domestic violence in San Diego region.
