Sheriff Gore Discusses Response To COVID-19

Over the weekend, the San Diego Sheriff's Department ticketed 22 beachgoers for violating the stay-at-home order. Meanwhile, the department also confirmed four employees and one inmate have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

As the number of positive cases of the virus that causes COVID-19 and deaths continue to rise in San Diego County, the Sheriff's Department is cracking down on people violating public health orders.

On Friday, the department ticketed 22 beachgoers for violating the stay-at-home order. The department has also confirmed four employees, including a nurse, and one inmate have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

In order to slow the spread of the disease in local jails, a San Diego judge authorized the department on Friday to release inmates with less than 60 days on their sentences.

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore joined Midday Edition on Monday to discuss the department's response to the new coronavirus pandemic.
