AMERICA REFRAMED: The Falconer

Rodney Stotts, a falconer and licensed raptor specialist from South East Washington D.C. (right). Chris Cooper being accosted and having the police called on him while watching birds in New York’s Central Park in 2020 helped inspire the first Black Birders Week, this year celebrated May 30 through June 5. To mark this occasion, WORLD Channel presents "The Falconer," a documentary about one of the few African-American falconers, a formerly incarcerated person saved by his work in conservation who is working to reach the next generation.

One of only a handful of African American falconers in the country, Rodney Stotts is on a mission to build a bird sanctuary and provide access to nature for his stressed community. "The Falconer" is a story of second chances: for injured birds of prey, for an abandoned plot of land, for a group of teenagers who have dropped out of high school, and for Rodney himself.
