U.S. Official: Russian Espionage at 'Cold War Levels'

U.S. counterintelligence chief Joel Brenner says Russian espionage efforts against the United States are "now back at Cold War levels." Brenner adds, "They are sending over an increasing and troubling number of intelligence officers into the United States."

Former intelligence officials say the shift reflects the priorities of President Putin, a former KGB man, as well as the impact of the increasingly strained diplomatic relations between Washington and Moscow, which may be damaging U.S.-Russian intelligence cooperation.
