  • Walter Orthmann has been working at a textile company in Brazil for 84 years and nine days, as verified in January by Guinness World Records. He celebrated his 100th birthday this month.
  • Sibyl Rubottom presents a visual memoir of her work from the last six decades, blending exploration with inspiration and comprising a variety of mediums: paintings, etchings, prints, artist books, collages, and soft sculpture. Central to her collection are artists books, her primary focus for over 25 years. She describes her work as “connecting folk traditions with a broad gamut of sensibilities, melding the boundaries between poetry and image making.” Sibyl’s books dive into concepts ranging from the celestial to the alphabetical. Her most enduring theme is water and its power to transport us across time and space—whether immersed in it or simply observing it. Sibyl Rubottom holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Yale University. The exhibition can be viewed in the AAC Gallery at the Athenaeum Art Center (1955 Julian Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113) during open hours, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and every second Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., during the Barrio Art Crawl, and by appointment.   • AIGA SD Hosts World Premiere of Graphis Designers for Peace Poster Exhibit Graphis’ Designers for Peace: United with Ukraine is a global juried exhibition of contemporary poster art to create a united voice of opposition to the war in Ukraine. This exhibition features more than 60 pieces of poster art from over 30 countries, curated by Graphis CEO B. Martin Pedersen, and jury chair, Kit Hinrichs of Studio Hinrichs. AIGA San Diego was chosen by Graphis to be the first city in the world to showcase this exhibit. Graphis, Inc. is an international publisher of books and wards for the visual communications industry. Based in New York City, Graphis was founded in 1944 by Walter Herdeg and Dr. Walter Amstutz in Zurich, Switzerland. On view Nov. 16 through Dec. 30, 2022. Opening reception information: Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022 6-8 p.m. UC San Diego Park & Market Tickets here.
