Yappy Hour will take a spooky turn with a Halloween-themed celebration on Thursday, October 30. The evening will include a dog costume contest, festive treats, and photo-worthy moments, like a Halloween pup parade. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere and every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., it’s Yappy Hour at Margaritaville Hotel San Diego’s pup-friendly rooftop oasis, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar. Designed for both locals and hotel guests, Yappy Hour is the perfect way to unwind with your four-legged friend, enjoy stunning views, and connect with fellow dog lovers over great drinks. Yappy Hour features a specialty dog-friendly menu with playful “barktails” including the Pawgarita, a cucumber and ice blend with a cucumber garnish, and the Pupa Colada, made with coconut purée and topped with a treat garnish. Dive into the world of theater with our latest exhibition, "Alex Katz: Theater and Dance," and draw costume designs inspired by friends and loved ones and set designs inspired by a memorable place or somewhere that you have always wanted to visit. Reflections is an art-making workshop series designed to serve adults 55 and older. In this new 4-week art series, consider what story you want to tell through your theater-inspired artwork and take inspiration from your own life to create. Imagine yourself, your friends, and your family, each depicted in the costume designs they would wear in a play about your lives, and design a set or backdrop where a scene from your life might play out. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, these workshops offer a fun and supportive space to explore new creative possibilities! Each workshop will include an investigation of contemporary art-making techniques and materials. No prior art experience is required. Registration gives participants access to the full series (four workshops). Session Dates Session dates in this series are: Friday, September 12 and Friday, September 19 Friday, October 3 and Friday, October 10 Daily Program 10 a.m.: Gallery Discussion The conversations around the artworks in MCASD’s collection will offer stimulating input and prompts for participants as they think about creating their own artworks. 10:30 a.m.: Coffee and Mingle Refreshments and time for social interaction will take place in Museum venues that take full advantage of the beautiful oceanside location and views. 11 a.m.: Art-Making Activity The hands-on workshop will provide a forum for self-expression and developing new interpersonal connections. Weekly Program September 12 & 19: Costume Design Drawing Drawing inspiration from Katz’s costume designs, create representations of yourself and your friends or family. Consider what type of clothes each member in your group might wear–what scene will you be depicting and what type of clothes make sense in it? Will it be everyday clothes or something for a special trip or occasion? You will create your own costume designs through a combination of drawing and tracing. October 3 & 10: Set Design Drawing Create a set design drawing for the theater production of your life inspired by Katz’s set designs. Imagine important or exciting moments in your life and how these might look in a play or reimagine the event happening in a location that you long to visit. Consider whether your set design drawing will be for an interior or exterior location. What would be included in this space? Perhaps a couch or a tree. You will design these, drawing and imagining your world as a stage where costumes and sets work together to bring your theater-inspired artworks to life. The San Diego Italian Film Festival presents its 19th annual feStivale, a showcase of the best new Italian cinema with a series of premieres varying from dramas and comedies to documentaries. Theme of this year’s festival is Courage, the strength to speak up, break barriers, and imagine new futures. Through movies and shorts, this year’s 19th feStivale invites audiences to explore the many faces of courage that shape Italian culture, challenge conventions, and inspire change. All while providing an Italian perspective and allowing for dialogues and discovery to take place. In the spirit of Italian Heritage Month, Galbani® Bella Vita Fest celebrates Italian culture with chalk art, Italian music and wine, all in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy, October 18-19, 2025. More than 40-plus expert chalk artists, depicting Italian themes, will line the streets of Little Italy, with live Italian music, La Cucina Galbani Cooking Stage, Italian merchants and Italian food for purchase. Plus, Italian winemakers will be offering tastings, via Vicolo del Vino. Food and wine tickets can be purchased here. October is Italian Heritage month, and the festival celebrates the tradition of street painting which began in 16th century Italy with traveling artists, many of whom had been brought into the cities to work on the cathedrals. When the work was done, they would often recreate the paintings of “Madonna” on the pavement; they became known as Madonnari. Street painting thrives today in festivals throughout the world. Street painters prefer this temporary performance art form that is created live before the eyes on the asphalt. This year, La Cucina Galbani Cooking Stage expands. Chef Marco, a brand ambassador for Galbani cheese, will hit the stage for several different on-stage cooking classes and demos. He blends artistry and expertise in the culinary realm; hailing from a rich culinary background, his innovative recipes highlight the versatility of Galbani cheeses and easy-to-make Italian-style dishes. With a commitment to excellence, Chef Marco's creations not only tantalize taste buds but also celebrate the heritage and tradition of Galbani cheese. Madison Gallery in Solana Beach will present "Four Seasons Interrupted" by internationally acclaimed Bosnian artist Radenko Milak, on view October 15 through December 15, 2025. Known for representing Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 57th Venice Biennale, Milak debuts a striking new series of 12–14 large-scale watercolors exploring climate disruption and the disappearance of seasonal rhythms. Set against the backdrop of New York City, these meticulously rendered works blur the line between painting and photography, creating a dreamlike tension between time, memory, and nature. "All these works move between fiction and reality. They resemble something familiar, scenes we seem to recognize, yet they do not truly exist. The entire series is conceived as a gap between what is real and what is imagined... a rupture where a new perception emerges," says Milak. The Ocean Conservancy and the California Coastal Commission partner with volunteer organizations, such as I Love A Clean San Diego to create the largest, international cleanup day. I Love A Clean San Diego leads the efforts for this day in San Diego County for the 41st year in a row. Data collected from this event feeds into the world’s largest database on marine debris. Join our efforts this year to be a part of this global event! This year, our countywide Coastal Cleanup Day will have around 100 + locations for volunteers to choose from, inland and coastal. Each site is hosted by a site captain (a specially trained volunteer) who will manage volunteers on site, properly dispose of the trash, and report back totals.
