The City of Carlsbad’s popular EGGstravaganza Spring Festival returns. This annual spring event features Carlsbad’s largest egg hunt, an ongoing egg scramble where kids race to collect candy-filled eggs. Don't forget to bring your basket! Face-painting, crafts, cookie decorating, a fun zone, soak the bunny and more. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Activity cards and wristbands can be purchased in advance or at the event to enjoy the activities and fun zone. No registration is needed to attend this event. How the egg scramble works The egg scramble is ongoing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or until eggs run out. To keep the scramble fun for all ages, one field will be designated for children ages 6 and over who want to race for their eggs, and an identical one will be for children ages 5 and under. There is also a noncompetitive field for young children, children with special needs, and for families wanting to pose for a photo opportunity. To avoid lines during the event, $8 activity cards and $8 unlimited inflatables wristbands can be purchased in advance at city community centers. The cards can be divided among multiple children for all the activities; however, wristbands are per person. Explore mindfulness-based writing using fun prompts to collectively inspire and deepen your intuitive expression. Participants in this one-session creative writing workshop will be inspired by a series of short, in-class prompts with a poem and pictures. The aim is to boost creativity and deepen each participant’s intuitive expression through contemplative practices. We will start this workshop with a brief mindfulness settling-in exercise—and a poem to accompany the session’s theme. And after each writing prompt, participants will be encouraged to discuss their work in small groups. This intuitive creation process is highly motivating; it enhances self-awareness and the flow of ideas and connection with others. As a creative-writing teacher and published author since 2007, and a trained mindfulness teacher since 2017, I enjoy fostering unique and brave spaces for participants to gather from all backgrounds and walks of life. This course is designed for every type of writer: novelists, poets, screenwriters, playwrights, journalists, essayists, etc., with all levels of experience: from novice writers to seasoned authors. Spend a lovely Valentine's Day afternoon listening to the beautiful music of the cello, featuring Peter Ko and Robert Bui. About Peter Ko: Praised as “particularly moving” (San Diego Story) and showing “extraordinary musicianship with unbroken focus … fierce and committed” (San Diego Union Tribune), Peter Ko is a San Diego based cellist, collaborating with musical artists such as Steve Schick, Joshua Rubin, Mark Fewer, and the Dover String Quartet. As a performer, his training and projects have taken him across the USA, Mexico, Canada, and Europe, performing in festivals such as soundSCAPE, SICPP, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, the Green Box Arts Festival, and Neofonía Festival de Música Nueva Ensenada. Peter currently serves as principal cellist for the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, has been featured with Yarn/Wire, Project [BLANK], and San Diego New Music. About Robert Bui: Robbie Bui is a versatile cellist, able to perform classical canon, pop improvisation, and contemporary avant-garde. He is grounded by an additional background in composition, and holds degrees from New England Conservatory and UC San Diego. Specializing in new music interpretation, he has been dedicated dozens of pieces as a soloist and chamber musician, and is recognized in ensembles such as East Coast Contemporary Ensemble, Palimpsest Ensemble, and Alinéa. Beyond cello, he’s a reliable pianist, good violinist, and not-so-good flutist. Beyond the stage, he works as the Patron Services and Office Manager of La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, and as a freelance portrait/event photographer. And beyond work, he learns languages, tailors clothes, cuts hair, and can make really great coffee.
