San Diego County swore in six elected officials at the County Administration Center Monday.

A U.S. Capitol Police statement said Micki Witthoeft was among a group of demonstrators who were blocking Independence Avenue SW, near First Street SW.

The number of new COVID-19 cases remained fairly steady in the past week, but county officials warned Friday an influx from holiday gatherings was likely in coming days.

High surf warnings are in effect in San Diego coastal areas until 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the joint letter, the municipalities concerned — the majority of which are Republican-controlled — want a more "collaborative" county policy strategy.

The count provides a one-day snapshot of the minimum number of San Diegans living in emergency shelters, transitional housing, safe havens and on streets and along riverbeds. It also collects data on the needs of those experiencing homelessness.

California has been battered by 10 previous atmospheric rivers this winter.

The latest in-custody death comes on the heels of news that a sheriff’s deputy was arrested for allegedly having illegal drugs on county jail property.

Officials with the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a statement in response to Southwest's cancellations, noting that the department will be looking into the situation.
