Less than a week after fully reopening its schools, the Vista Unified School District reported a second COVID-19 case involving a Mission Vista High School student, leading to the quarantine of about 150 students and four teachers.

Gusty Santa Ana winds were sweeping through San Diego County Monday amid dry conditions, raising the risk of wildfires in the mountains and the inland valleys.

San Diego County health officials have reported 269 new COVID-19 infections and two new deaths, bringing the case total to 54,583 and raising the death toll to 870.

With expected Santa Ana winds and elevated fire weather conditions in north San Diego County, San Diego Gas & Electric has notified approximately 21,480 residents that it may have to turn off power to reduce wildfire risk Monday and Tuesday.

Strong winds are expected in San Diego County through Tuesday, as a deepening low-pressure system increases onshore flow and moisture over the area.

Fans were not allowed to attend Saturday's Mountain West Conference game because of state health orders related to the coronavirus pandemic. It is unlikely they will be able to attend the Aztecs' three other games in 2020 at the 27,000-seat stadium.

Mayor Todd Gloria and City Council President Sean Elo-Rivera Wednesday announced an update to San Diego's climate action initiative.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
