As the social media strategist, Laura McVicker is responsible for managing the station’s social media platforms. This includes creating and sharing content, stories, and announcements; setting content priorities and guidelines; and growing the station’s presence and engagement across its social media platforms.

Laura has been in journalism for 11 years, first starting out at a small daily newspaper in Southern Oregon. Later, she moved to the Portland, Ore., area and covered the courts beat for The Columbian newspaper. While at the paper, she discovered a love for digital journalism and social media and began aggressively using it in her reporting. Her next roles drew from that love: social media manager for KATU News in Portland and NBC San Diego.

Laura appreciates the public service approach of KPBS to provide deeper, more thoughtful perspectives to news and education.
