Mother and Son Share Their Family’s Experience with Alcoholism

Tom Fudge:  Many teenagers get involved with drugs.  But many more become addicted to alcohol.  We’ll speak with a mother and a son who went down that road but found a way back.  Toren Volkman first started abusing alcohol at the age of 14.  And for the next ten years he experienced blackouts, expulsion from sports teams, withdrawal symptoms and, eventually, treatment.  He and his mother have told the story of his addition in a book called From Binge to Blackout .  We’ll speak with them about how the problem began and what families can do to prevent kids from abusing liquor.
