SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Authorities say San Diego police shot and killed a man suspected of attempted murder after he wounded an officer in a gun battle.
Officers were staking out the area last night with a warrant for the man's arrest when he came out of the apartment and ran back in.
An officer approached the suspect, who then pulled a handgun from his waistband. Authorities say it was not clear whether the man fired first.
A gun battle followed, with the suspect firing several rounds at two officers. The suspect was hit and died at the scene.
One officer was shot and taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery, police said. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Neither the suspect nor the officer has been identified.
