Poway Schools will open on schedule today -- but with increased security -- after threats of violence were found on campuses last week.

Poway School Superintendent Donald Phillips sent out this recorded message to parents.

Phillips : Three of our secondary schools have recently discovered written threats of violence in student restrooms. All the cases were immediately reported to law enforcement agencies, who, in each case, determined them not to be credible threats. I want to assure parents that our first priority is student safety. As part of that priority, we communicated immediately with parents regarding the threats at these schools.

Poway schools are working with police and the sheriff's department this week to increase security. In addition, parents have been invited to be on campus all week.

Phillips says it's important that today be a “normal” day in Poway schools.

The district has established a telephone hotline where people can report possible threats.
