State corrections officials say they're pulling people from all areas of government to help jumpstart newly-funded prison facilities and programs. The governor's office has announced two new “strike teams” who will help out with advice and expertise.
The Secretary of Corrections and Rehabilitation Jim Tilton says the first strike team will address rehabilitation programs.
Tilton : So that we can address both existing programs and make sure we're efficient with existing resources and put best practices in to move forward on the programming side.
Tilton says another strike team will help with the new building projects that will take place at prisons and for community facilities. The Governor recently signed legislation that provides more than $7 billion to build more than 50,000 beds to address overcrowding.
The governor's chief of staff says the governor will be visiting the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to talk with managers about the projects.
