From the Kumeyaay to Alonzo Horton to Ed Fletcher, the history of San Diego is tied to the search for a lasting water supply. We speak to KPBS producer Pat Finn about the history and politics of water

Tom Fudge: Whiskey is for drinking. Water is for fighting over. Mark Twain said that. You may know he was once a journalist in California. In fact, fighting over water is a big part of the history and lore of this state. Think about that iconic American film, set in drought-plagued Los Angeles, called Chinatown .

It's impossible to understand the history of Southern California without knowing something about the history of water use and water provision.
