Tijuana Gunman Kill a Second Police Officer as Violence Escalates

The Governor of Baja California says law enforcement will not back down nor be intimidated by the exceptional violence last night in Tijuana. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has the story.

Baja California Governor Eugenio Elorduy told reporters the war against organized crime and kidnappings will cost what it’ll cost. But he says that’s the price of moving forward.

Last night in Tijuana, gunmen killed the second off-duty state police officer in just 72 hours. The agent was found dead in his car at a downtown shopping center.

A few hours later, a convoy of 20 gunmen opened fire on a federal police station.

One man was killed. A woman was injured. And two federal officers were also wounded.

Governor Elorduy says the violence is a result of law enforcement’s attack on organized crime.

However, critics say crime is raging out of control and law enforcement is impotent to stop it.

Authorities detained two of the estimated 20 gunmen.
