Architects Seek to Plant Some Orchids and Onions
Tuesday, August 19, 2008
Tom Fudge: There are a lot of professional organizations that give awards to members of their tribes who do good work. Think of the Academy Awards or something like that. What makes San Diego's Orchids and Onions awards for architecture a little more interesting is the fact that they recognize both the best and the worst. The Onions are the booby prizes, and they are usually the most memorable. They get people worked up and, as we'll soon find out, they can have an impact on the way San Diego develops.
- Maxine Ward , Orchids & Onions Co-Chair and Architect at Studio E Architects, San Diego . She is a board member of the San Diego Architectural Foundation , which owns and operates Orchids and Onions.
- David Preciado , Orchids & Onions Co-Chair and Landscape Architect at Estrada Land Planning , San Diego.
- Howard Blackson , 2007 Orchids & Onions Architectural Commentator and practicing Urban Designer at Stantec Architecture, San Diego.
The Orchids and Onions winners will be announced on November 13th, 2008 at the Hall of Ch38ions in Balboa Park.
