Devastating wildfires continue to take their toll in four Southern California counties.
A fire in Sylmar in the San Fernando Valley has destroyed 500 mobile homes, nine single-family homes and 11 commercial buildings. It has grown to more than 8,000 acres and is only 20 percent contained.
No deaths have been reported so far. But the Los Angeles police chief says he fears authorities might find bodies among the burned mobile homes.
To the south, more than 60 homes were damaged or destroyed in a fire that erupted in the Santa Ana River bottom in Corona and spread west into the communities of Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills.
Since Thursday, wildfires have injured at least 20 people and destroyed hundreds of homes from coastal Santa Barbara to inland Riverside County, on both sides of Los Angeles.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles, a day after issuing a similar declaration for Santa Barbara County.
