Off-Duty San Diego Police Officer Killed In Motorcycle Crash

An off-duty San Diego police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash near Palm City, the San Diego Police Department said today.

Officer Christopher Blakeley, 26, a 3-year department veteran, was killed about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, said San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown.

Witnesses said Blakeley was speeding west on Main Street and failed to stop at a red light at Hollister Street, Brown said.

The motorcycle collided with a pickup truck, causing the truck to roll over, Brown said. The truck's passengers only suffered minor injuries.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
