Padres Honor Local Hispanic Doctor

The San Diego Padres are recognizing a local physician before tonight's game against the Florida Marlins.

Dr. Raul Trejo will receive the first of three San Diego Padres Hispanic Heritage Comunidad Awards to be given by the ballclub this season. He is being recognized for his devotion to children’s health.

Trejo is a part-time faculty member in the Scripps Family Medicine Residency Program and the San Yisidro Health Center. He is also the founder of the Palomar High School Clinic, where community members are able to receive limited health care, free of cost.

Trejo, who was raised in San Yisidro and after attending UC Berkely and Harvard Medical School, made a point to return to his community.

“I think it is very important to hold myself and resident medical students accountable, because the community looks up to us," said Trejo.

The San Diego Padres are taking nominations of individuals or organizations for the Hispanic Heritage Comunidad Award through June 4th at padres.com/community and padresbeisbol.com/comunidad.
