Early Morning Crash Causes Backup On San Diego's I-8

Traffic was snarled on Interstate 8 near San Diego State Thursday after a crash involving several vehicles sent three people to the hospital, authorities said.

The crash on westbound I-8 at College Avenue was reported at 5:14 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. As many as eight vehicles and a motorcycle were involved, the agency reported on its website.

Paramedics took three people to Scripps Mercy Hospital, a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher said.

All westbound lanes were closed for about an hour, causing a huge backup for morning commuters.
