Tijuana-based Chef Javier Plascencia is on a mission to revolutionize his city's culinary scene and its image through food.

And many are taking notice, including Anthony Bourdain, who recently visited Plascencia's much-buzzed-about Mision 19 restaurant for his popular Travel Channel show "No Reservations", and The New Yorker, who profiled the rising star in last week's issue, "The Missionary: Can an adventurous chef remake his city's image?"

San Diego Magazine went behind the scenes with New Yorker writer Dana Goodyear to learn more about her experiences writing this story. Check out this Q&A.
